January 2017: The southern provinces of Thailand are being ravaged by floods as a result of unprecedented rainfall. With streets and buildings all underwater and flood levels continue to rise, many people have been forced to evacuate their homes, leaving thousands of street dogs and cats without their food source. This is YOUR chance to help them.

South Thailand Floods

Report from our Outreach Programme Manager

2PM - 13th January

The last two days have been spent just outside the southern city of Nakhon Si Thammarat and we have now moved to the district of Thung Song.

From what we have seen though, we will definitely need to return to Nakhon Si Thammarat, as well as to another flooded village we have been made aware of. Where we are headed to now currently has water at waist height. We are working alongside organisations like The Red Cross and the Thai Military, who are busy helping humans, while we take care of the stricken animals.

The Bangkok-based SOS Animals Thailand has also joined forces with us. So far, every roaming dog we've met has had no access to food until we arrived. Due to people having to evacuate their properties, the animals have nobody caring for them. Sadly, many of the animals have sought refuge from the floods on bigger roads, as evidenced by the number we have found that have tragically been killed by fast-moving vehicles.

At one temple, we were told they had lost 8 dogs in the floods. Approximately 50 cats and 37 dogs remain, one of whom we are treating for severe skin problems. We continue to distribute food every where it is needed but urgently need your support to continue the relief efforts.

5AM - 11th January

Soi Dog Foundation is assisting with food supplies and making the 200 mile journey, initially to Nakohn Si Thammarat, one of the worst affected areas. Truckloads of dog and cat food, along with medical supplies and personnel are on their way to assist the volunteers working tirelessly to save these vulnerable animals from disaster.
